Bus says Alabama 'derserves' Roy Moore, and Doug Jones pounces

One candidate’s misspelling was another candidate’s opportunity.

A bus sponsored by the Great America Alliance, a pro-Donald Trump PAC supporting former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore's U.S. Senate bid, is parked in downtown Montgomery, Ala. on September 21, 2017. The bus contained a misspelled URL that Democratic nominee Doug Jones' campaign quickly purchased.

A bus sponsored by a pro-Trump group called Great America Alliance — which brought former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former White House adviser Sebastian Gorka to a rally supporting former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s U.S. Senate bid Thursday — included a URL for a website promoting the rally, alabamadeservesmoore.com.

But a misspelling on the side of the bus directed people to the website, alabamaderservesmoore.com.

A photo of the misspelling caught by Twitter users went viral. Democratic Senate nominee Doug Jones’ campaign quickly purchased the URL, which now directs people to the Jones’ campaign website.

Jones, who was attending the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. annual legislative conference, laughed, then smiled when asked about it by USA TODAY. “I think the website says it all,’’ he said. “Click on that website and it says it all.’’

Great America Alliance is associated with Great America PAC, a pro-Trump political action committee headed by Ed Rollins, a former campaign manager for Ronald Reagan. The group spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads in June attacking former FBI Director James Comey before his testimony before Congress. An email seeking comment was sent to Great America PAC Friday.

The spelling error was corrected before the bus arrived at Moore’s rally Thursday night.
