Husband and wife - both dentists - open east side practice together

Brad Harper, Montgomery Advertiser

Dominique Shamburger thanked visitors Tuesday when they complimented the décor at the east Montgomery dental practice she just opened with her husband and colleague, Carl.

“I’m one of the dentists and sole decorator,” she laughed.

“I just carry the furniture and she tells me where to put it,” Carl Shamburger smiled back.

The two went to dental school in separate states and met through mutual friends without knowing that they were both dentists. After starting a life together, they came to Montgomery to work because “it was a nice in-between point” between their families in her hometown of Birmingham and his hometown of Pine Hill.

“We were practicing in public health for several years, and we decided we like Montgomery and we’re going to make it home,” Dominique Shamburger said.

They opened the 2,184-square-foot Montgomery Dental Arts at 10650 Chantilly Parkway about two weeks ago. It offers a full range of dental services from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and Saturday by appointment. Those hours could change depending on demand.

They also offer a $250-a-year plan as a complement to (or alternative to) insurance. That covers two cleanings, any x-rays and a 25 percent discount on everything else.

The couple said the plan is a way to get dental treatments to more people. “Once you come through, you’re part of the family as well,” Carl Shamburger said. “We want to treat our family right.”
