Gov. Kay Ivey on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Jon Mason, former Gov. Robert Bentley’s director of faith-based services and husband of Rebekah Mason, whose alleged affair with Bentley brought down his administration.

Rebekah Caldwell Mason sits with her husband, Jon Mason, during his State of the State address on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at the Alabama Capitol building in Montgomery, Ala.

Eileen Jones, a spokeswoman for Ivey, said the governor is “evaluating all staff, and all Cabinet members who will stay, (and) who will go.”

“The governor has asked members of the staff to turn in letters of resignation,” Jones said. “(Mason’s) was accepted.”

Jones did not say what if any role Mason’s connection to the scandal had in Ivey’s decision but said no other resignations had been accepted yet. A message seeking comment was left with Jon Mason on Tuesday afternoon.

The Masons traveled with Bentley to President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, about 10 months after Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Spencer Collier first accused Bentley of having an affair with Rebekah Mason, the governor’s senior political adviser. Bentley and Jon Mason said Mason was meeting with directors of faith-based services in other states.

The Masons attended Bentley’s State of the State speech in February, the first time in months Bentley and Rebekah Mason were publicly seen in the same room.
