AUBURN -- Prattville's Kamryn Pettway has spent the week at H-back, a move that could be a short-term experiment or long-term possibility.

This week allows the coaching staff a change to experiment at moving the 6-foot 239 pound Pettway, who is redshirting this season.

"We can experiment with it and say 'okay in the spring how do we want to proceed?'" Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said. "We get a couple of weeks here to decide if that's a permanent move or if he's better off not doing that. These first two days he's kind of being thrown to the fire."

Pettway, who ran for 1,402 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior at Prattville, is unlike any other running back expected to be on the roster next season.

Prior to the season, Pettway was being looked at "primarily" at tailback and he still could be a complementary option to speedier players like Robinson and Roc Thomas. But the future at H-back is unclear, beyond Chris Laye, after the departures of C.J. Uzomah and Brandon Fulse, and untimely passing of Jakell Mitchell.

"He can still be a big back," Lashlee said. "I have really been impressed by the way he's transitioned two days in. What that means I don't know. He's still learning what to do, but he's done a really good job. He's real physical. I think he really enjoys it and he's been pretty impressive just initially his first two days. Hopefully he'll keep progressing."
