Auburn moves up a spot in AP, Amway Coaches polls

AUBURN -- Following a tune-up win over Samford, Auburn moved up a spot in the polls heading into the Iron Bowl.

Auburn (8-3. 4-3 SEC) is No. 15 in the Associated Press poll and No. 16 in the Amway Coaches poll and remain the highest ranked three-loss team in both polls.

Auburn received 597 points in the AP poll, up from 531 last week, and slightly opened its lead over Georgia Tech (581).

Florida State kept the top spot, with 1,458 points, down from 1,476 a week ago, and lost six first place votes (37) from last week following its 20-17 win over Boston College.

Alabama (1,445) remained No. 2 and added five first place votes first place votes (21) while No. 3 Oregon (1,393) received picked up the other.

Alabama hosts Auburn in the Iron Bowl at 6:45 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.

Mississippi State (1,301), Baylor (1,234), TCU (1,233), Ohio State (1,163), Georgia (1,002), UCLA (998) and Michigan State (971) round out the AP top 10.

Auburn is 2-2 against ranked teams, including 1-2 against teams in the top 11.

Auburn received 565 points in the coaches poll, up from 508 a week ago, and the most among three-loss teams.

Alabama took over the No. 1 spot from Florida State, due more to the Seminoles' struggles with Boston College than the Crimson Tide's handling of Western Carolina.

Alabama received 1,474 points with 25 first place votes, down from 1,494 points but an increase of eight first place votes, while Florida State (1,462 points) lost nine first place votes (30).

Oregon remained No. 3 with 1,431 points, down from 1,434, and had six first place votes and Mississippi State (1,323) stayed at No. 4

TCU (1,259), Baylor (1,242), Ohio State (1,191), Michigan State (1.052) and Georgia (1,002) and UCLA (963) round out the top 10 of the coaches poll.
