Braden Smith named to SEC All-Freshman team

Auburn offensive lineman Braden Smith was named to the SEC All-Freshman team.

AUBURN -- Auburn's Braden Smith was named to the SEC All-Freshman team, as determined by the conference's coaches.

The 6-foot-6 299 pound offensive lineman appeared in 11 games, most prominently as an additional blocker in a blocking tight end role.

Smith is the second Auburn offensive lineman named to the SEC All-Freshman team in as many years, matching Alex Kozan's feat last season.

Georgia running back Nick Chubb, a first-team All-SEC honoree, was named the SEC's Freshman of the Year on Wednesday.

LSU had a league-leading four selections to the SEC All-Freshman team, which was announced Thursday. Five institutions had three or more members on the team.

Two players – LSU's Leonard Fournette and Texas A&M's Speedy Noil - earned two selections to this year's team. Fournette was recognized as both a running back and an all-purpose athlete, while Noil was honored as a wide receiver and as a return specialist.
