INDIANAPOLIS --Cam Newton's health is improving after an injury plagued year.

The Panthers quarterback and former Heisman Trophy winner met with Carolina coach Ron Rivera last week and said he's feeling "really good" as he recovers from injuries to his ankle, ribs and back.

"He said for the first time in a long time he feels very, very good," Rivera said. "His ankle, the one that he had surgically repaired, he feels really good about that. The ribs don't bother him. The back doesn't seem to bother him."

Newton is back on Auburn's campus again working towards his sociology degree, which Rivera said he plans to complete this semester.

Rivera said Newton, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, has discussed working with a quarterback coach this offseason and bringing several of the team's receivers together.

"It's part of his plan that he's going to implement and some things that he's going to work on specifically," Rivera said.
