AUBURN – What can't Montravius Adams do?

The 6-foor-4 306 pound Auburn defensive tackle has shown an uncanny speed in pass rush for a 300-pounder, the same speed that nearly led to him scoring a touchdown on an interception return in No. 5 Auburn's 45-17 victory over Louisiana Tech at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the Bulldogs facing third-and-five from their own 43-yard line, Auburn went into its "cinco" package, with Kris Frost blitzing off the edge, forcing Cody Sokol to throw early.

Frost got a hand on the ball and Adams picked it off, thundering down the left sideline for 37 yards before getting tackled by Trent Taylor at the five-yard line.

"I was doing an up-and-under on the guard," Adams said. "Before I did the under, I seen the ball and just stayed there. It kind of shocked me, so when I did catch it I kind of stayed there for like three seconds then I took off.

"I ain't see nothing but the end zone; that's what I was trying to get to. But unfortunately, No. 5, he came and tackled me. … I was just thinking score the touchdown. I thought I had it."

Adams, who had one tackle, later recovered a fumble, the first of his career, by Taylor at the Bulldogs 38-yard line with 1:15 to go in the first half. The Tigers scored three plays later on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Nick Marshall to Quan Bray.

Auburn's last interception by a defensive lineman was by Nick Fairley in 2010 at Mississippi State. That game by Fairley was also the last time an Auburn player registered both an interception and a fumble recovery.

"He's an impact player, there's no doubt," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said of Adams. "Athletic, and made a great catch and run."
