AUBURN --Jonathon Mincy won't start the season opener against Arkansas, but the extent of his discipline, like that of Nick Marshall, remains unclear.

Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson deferred an inquiry as to Mincy's punishment to coach Gus Malzahn, who has said only that Marshall and Mincy won't start after their marijuana-related run-ins with law enforcement this summer.

"What exactly he's going to do that first game, I don't know all the details," Johnson said Thursday. "I know he's not going to start, and we've got a plan for that."

Unlike the offensive coaching staff, which has declined to state the obvious - Jeremy Johnson will start at quarterback on Aug. 30 – Johnson acknowledged Jonathan Jones is likely going to fill Mincy's spot at field corner for as long as the senior is sidelined.

Whatever discipline is handed down on Mincy, who was arrested for possession of marijuana on June 27 and entered a pre-trial diversion program, it will be solely from Malzahn.

"It's the head coach's control and discretion," Johnson said.

Mincy has not been available for interviews since his arrest.
