HOOVER -- Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates was one of the 55 players named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. released Tuesday morning.

Coates was one of the best deep threats in the country last season. He had 42 receptions for 902 yards and seven touchdowns for the Tigers last season.

Sammie Coates was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.

It is the second preseason honor for Coates, who was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List last week.

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position, who catches a pass is eligible for the award. The Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely wide receiver.

"Given the significant number of excellent college receivers playing this season," Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation chairman Charles Hopkins said in a statement, "the race for the 2014 Biletnikoff Award will be the most entertaining and wide-open in many years."

The 2014 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 11 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show. College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2014 winner.

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., will announce the ten Biletnikoff Award semifinalists on Nov. 17, following the vote by the 221 members of the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. Likewise, the three finalists will be declared, following another vote, on Nov. 24.
