Three-star running back Malik Miller commits to Auburn

AUBURN -- Another Madison Academy running back is headed to the Plains.

Malik Miller committed to Auburn during a ceremony at his high school on Thursday.

Rated a four-star prospect by Rivals and three-star by 247Sports and Scout, Miller said he informed Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and running backs coach Tim Horton, who he called a "major impact in this whole recruiting process," after making his decision last week.

"(Malzahn) really believes in me and I believe in him," Miller said. "He's an offensive genius and I look forward to playing in his offense. ... I believe him and coach Horton, they believe in me, they see a future of the Auburn Tigers in my legs so to say. It's a really good comfort feeling with them."

Miller ran for 1,390 yards with 24 touchdowns while working behind Kerryon Johnson, last year's Alabama Mr. Football who signed with Auburn this past year, and helped lead Madison Academy to its third straight state championship last season.

"Kerryon, I'm going to give him some credit, he played a small role in it," Miller said. "Every day he was egging me on, trying to nitpick me here and there seeing what I'm thinking. ... He knew hey, last thing you want to be is pressured, just let me make my own decision."

A 5-foot-11 229 pound prospect, Miller is listed as a fullback by Scout and 247Sports, who ranks Miller the top FB in the country, but he insists he's a true running back.

"Tail back. I'm a running back," Miller said. "I'm not a fullback, I'm a running back. The position that Roc Thomas plays, that Tre Mason and Cameron Artis-Payne plays, I'm going to be battling for that position when I get there so I'm going to be a running back."

The addition of Miller gives Auburn seven commitments to its 2016 recruiting class, which moved up four spots to No. 27 in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
