INDIANAPOLIS -- Chris Davis Jr. took over the kickoff return duties in San Diego late last season and the Kick Six hero figures to be a factor for the Chargers for some time.

"He got some opportunities late in the year and he gave us a little bit of juice there," San Diego general manager Tom Telesco said. "Certainly on kickoff returns he hits the seam hard and he's aggressive. He's a got a track record of doing it in college. He did some good things for us in the return game."

Davis had 19 kickoff returns for 476 yards, with a long of 35 yards. Though he was one of the best punt returners in college football in 2013, Davis was not used much on punt returns as a rookie, with just one return for four yards.

An undrafted free agent, Davis was one of the last players to make the cut for the Chargers before last season, but an ankle injury kept him off the field kept him out until Oct. 5. Playing mostly in nickel and dime coverage, Davis had 15 tackles, including seven in a lopsided defeat to Miami on Nov. 2, forced a fumble and had one pass defended in his rookie season.

"He had a great training camp for us," Telesco said. "He can play a number of different roles for us, either as an inside corner or nickel, or play outside and in the return game."
