AUBURN -- Former Auburn forward Alex Thompson will continue his career at Samford.

The former walk-on, who averaged 2.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 23 games off the bench last season, announced his commitment via Twitter Sunday, less than two weeks after he stated he was leaving Auburn.

"Happy to say I've committed and will play the rest of my career with (Samford) excited to get to work!!," Thompson tweeted.

A 6-foot-9 210 pound forward, Thompson's shining moment at Auburn came in the opening round of the SEC Tournament, when he scored a career-high 16 points to help lead the Tigers past Mississippi State for their first postseason win since 2009.

Thompson, who was awarded a scholarship by former coach Tony Barbee during the 2013-14 season, missed the first seven games of last season while serving a "leave of absence" from the program. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
