WETUMPKA -- A 76-year-old Millbrook man received non-life threatening injuries when the plane he was piloting crashed Friday evening at the Wetumpka Municipal Airport, said Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin.

The sheriff confirmed the man's identity as Dan Power of Millbrook.

Power was airlifted to a Montgomery hospital after the crash and expected to make a full recovery, the sheriff said.

It appears the Beechcraft was on final approach for landing about 7:30 p.m. when it clipped some trees, Franklin said. The plane crashes upside down, inside the fenced in area of the airport, short of the runway, he said. Power was the only person in the plane.

The FAA will conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
