AUBURN -- The first spring practice of 2015 was held this afternoon and there were some personnel developments right out of the gate.

The quick observations from today's roughly 20 minute viewing period are as follows:

  • Jason Smith, in an orange quarterback jersey, was among those working on punt returns. Also on PRs were Marcus Davis and Gray King.
  • Carl Lawson was moving around just fine in defensive line drills.
  • The first team secondary is Josh Holsey and Jonathan Jones at corner with Johnathan Ford and Tray Matthews at safety with true freshman Tim Irvin in at nickel. The second team of DBs was T.J. Davis and Kamryn Melton at corner with Nick Ruffin and Irvin at safety and Michael Sherwood in at nickel. Clearly, Irvin is going to get an early look to compete somewhere in the secondary.
  • On kickoff returns were Stanton Truitt, Peyton Barber and Jovon Robinson
  • The first group of offensive linemen included Shon Coleman, Alex Kozan, Austin Golson, Avery Young, Braden Smith, Xavier Dampeer and Jordan Diamond. Obviously there is a true first five, but seeral offensive linemen were working on special teams drills so there was not a clear second group today.
  • DaVonte Lambert and Gimel President were out of practice and Elijah Daniel appeared to be limited
  • Ricardo Louis' right knee was pretty heavily wrapped though he did not appear to be affected
  • Reese Dismukes, Patrick Miller and Chad Slade were in attendance

Newcomer jersey numbers: 4 - Jason Smith, 15 - Tyler Queen, 22 - Tim Irvin, 27 - Chandler Cox, 29 - Jovon Robinson, 66- Bailey Sharp, 67 - Tyler Carr and 90 - Maurice Swain.

Jersey number changes: DaVonte Lambert is 6 from 86, walk-on kicker Duncan McKinney is 31, Jakell Mitchell's former number, from 64, walk-on wide out Logan Rice is 37 from 27, walk-on punter Jack Bjork is 64 from 84

Auburn did not update height and weight measurements on its spring roster, so whether or not D'haquille Williams dropped the weight coaches were hoping, or if Jeremy Johnson has bulked up a bit, is anybody's guess.
