Auburn wide receiver D'haquille Williams catches a touchdown over Auburn defensive back Kamryn Melton during the Auburn A-Day spring game on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala.

CULLMAN -- The already thin Auburn secondary lost another member as Kamryn Melton announced he was transferring from the program on Thursday.

Melton, who appeared in three games but failed to record a tackle last season and played in three games before suffering a knee injury and receiving a medical shirt in 2013, posted a departing message of thanks via Twitter.

"I want to thank coach Malzahn and the Auburn coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to attend and play football for such a prestigious school," Melton wrote. "I also want to thank the Auburn Family and fans for the life-long memories I made while I was on the Plains. In my heart I will always be a Auburn Man, but after praying an having a discussion with my family I have decided to transfer."

Melton played with the second-team defense on A-Day but failed to record a tackle and was outplayed on consecutive plays by Ricardo Louis (49-yards catch) and D'haquille Williams (36-yard touchdown).

A former three-star prospect out of Dothan, Melton will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn informed defensive coordinator Will Muschamp of Melton's departure, which leaves the Tigers with five scholarship corners before the arrival of freshmen Jermiah Dinson and Carlton Davis.

" I wish (Melton) all the luck. I wish him well," Muschamp said before a meeting of the Cullman County Auburn Club. "We think we've signed some good players and we have some good players on campus, and we're looking forward to those players."
