Spring practice observations: Day 9
AUBURN -- The Tigers held their ninth spring practice today and the biggest takeaway is an apparent minor issue with the right leg of D'haquille Williams.
The senior wide receiver has been stretched out on the side before today's practice, and last week as well. During full stretches it was evident that Williams, who has been practicing all spring, was unable to do as much with the right leg as the left.
Again, this is a minor issue, probably a hamstring or calf strain, but it hasn't even kept him off the field that we know of so don't overreact quite yet. We'll seek clarification from Gus Malzahn after practice.
Otherwise there was very little change from a week ago personnel-wise, at least during the initial opening viewing periods.
There were no defensive drills done where discerning the depth chart was possible and the offense rotated pretty heavily at the positions being battled.
- From the sound of it, defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson was not pleased with his group's performance in Saturday's scrimmage
- Defensive line coach Rodney Garner was really getting after Andrew Williams during one drill
- There was an offensive set with both Chandler Cox and Kamryn Pettway blocking out of the backfield
- The offensive linemen remains Shon Coleman, Alex Kozan, Austin Golson, Braden Smith and Avery Young
The second group includes a mix of players with Xavier Dampeer at center - Return squads remained the same:
Kickoff returns included Ricardo Louis, Stanton Truitt, Roc Thomas and Johnathan Ford
Punt returns were Jason Smith, Marcus Davis, Gray King and Stephen Roberts - Truittand Tim Irvin are still in orange no contact jerseys
- Gabe Wright was in attendance again
