Arrest made in fatal shooting of Auburn's Jakell Mitchell

Markale Deandra Hart of Camp Hill is taken into custody for the shooting death of Jakell Mitchell, an Auburn football player, on Sunday in Opelika. Auburn Police investigates a shooting at the Tiger Lodge apartments in Auburn early Sunday morning.  According to the Lee County Coroners office the incident occurred at a residence in the 200 block of West Longleaf Drive in Auburn. Jakell Lenard Mitchell, 18, and current Auburn University football player was transported to East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance with apparent multiple gunshot wounds and died shortly after arrival at the emergency room from his injuries.

AUBURN -- An arrest has been made in connection with the Sunday's fatal shooting of Auburn freshman football player Jakell Mitchell .

Auburn Police, along with the Tallapoosa County Sheriff Department and Jackson Gap Police, arrested Markale Hart, 22, of Camp Hill on felony murder charges.

Police located and arrested Hart in Dadeville, approximately 25 miles Northwest of Auburn, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, according to Auburn Police chief Paul Register.

Hart was transported to the Lee County jail and will be eligible for a $150,000 bond. A date for Hart's arraignment has not yet been set, according to Register.

The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division and the State Medical Examiner's Office, though no additional arrests are anticipated, according to police.
