AUBURN -- Defensive end DaVonte Lambert injured his left leg on the first defensive play of Auburn's 31-7 win over Samford on Saturday.

The 6-foot-2 293 pound junior went down after tackling Samford's Denzel Williams after a run of one yard.

After trainers and Dr. James Andrews attended to Lambert's left leg on the sideline, he went to the locker room and did not return to action.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn did not have an update on Lambert's status following the game.

"He got hurt the first play," Malzahn said. "I don't know his status up to this point."

The junior college transfer has 24 tackles with seven for loss, including a team-high 3 1/2 sacks.
