Auburn running back Roc Thomas could make his debut this week.

AUBURN --Roc Thomas didn't see any action in last week's season opener but Saturday's matchup with San Jose State could provide the opportunity for the true freshman to make his debut.

"There's still a plan to play him, so hopefully it works out where he plays this week," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "The way the game unfolded with Cam and Corey, that's just kind of how it went, but Roc is ready. Nothing's wrong with him and he had a really good attitude after the game, so hopefully we'll get to see some of him soon."

As has been the case all along, the plan is not to redshirt Thomas, the reigning Alabama Mr. Football.

"At the time right now we are planning on playing him," Malzahn said. "You never know how that goes, but at this point we're planning on playing him."

Thomas, who has not been available for interviews, is behind seniors Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant. Redshirt-freshman Peyton Barber also saw the field last week.

"We went with the two older guys Saturday and Peyton got some work towards the end, but both those guys, as the season goes on, you can't have enough depth at the tailback position in our league," Malzahn said. "We understand that."
